Today, I’m introducing Do Ho Suh, a globally acclaimed installation artist who redefines personal memory, identity, and space through his work.
Who is Do Ho Suh?
Born in Seoul in 1962, Do Ho Suh spent his childhood in a traditional Korean hanok, an experience that shaped his lifelong exploration of architectural space.
After studying Oriental painting at Seoul National University, he moved to the U.S. and earned his degrees in painting and sculpture at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and Yale University.
His father, Suh Se-ok, was a master of Korean abstract ink painting — an artistic legacy that deeply influences Do Ho Suh’s practice.
